KUALA LUMPUR, 17 September 2014: Between March and September 2014, Prima Nexus sponsored five scientific meetings: the 3rd NPC Research Day at the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) on 31 March; a three-day immunostaining and confocal microscopy workshop at the UKM Medical Centre from 19 August; the Pharmacology & Physiology International Scientific Congress 2014 (PPISC 2014) at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from 22 to 24 August; the Controlled Release & Drug Delivery Symposium 2014 (CRDDS2014) at UKM's Kuala Lumpur Campus on 23 and 24 August; and the 5th Malaysian Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Scientific Meeting (MTERMS 2014) in Bangi from 17 to 19 September.
A cancer research day, and a microscopy workshop
The NPC Society of Malaysia held its 3rd NPC Research Day and 4th Annual General Meeting inside IMR in Kuala Lumpur on Monday 31 March. From 19 to 21 August, the Tissue Engineering Centre at the UKM Medical Centre ran a basic workshop on immunostaining and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) for researchers from several universities. They practised fluorescence staining of fixed cells and tissues and of live human cells, followed live cells by time-lapse imaging, learned how CLSM and super-resolution microscopy work, and captured and analysed their own images.
Pharmacology at PWTC, and drug delivery at UKM
The Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) held PPISC 2014 as its 28th Scientific Meeting, with partner groups in vascular biology and hypertension. Besides the classic fields of pharmacology and physiology, it focused on the heart and blood vessels, and also covered natural products and traditional medicine, and researchers presented talks and posters. The same weekend, the Centre for Drug Delivery Research at UKM's Faculty of Pharmacy hosted CRDDS2014, with the annual general meeting of the Malaysian Local Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (MyCRS). Under the theme "Maximizing Efficacy Through Optimized Delivery", its topics ran from polymers and modified-release systems to the delivery of proteins and genes.
Tissue engineering in Bangi, and Prima Nexus's part
TESMA held MTERMS 2014 at Hotel Bangi-Putrajaya under the theme "R&D to Tangible Benefits", and asked academics, government bodies, industry and investors to chart the way forward for regenerative medicine in Malaysia. Prima Nexus sponsored all five meetings, and in December it sponsored a seminar for MyCRS members at UKM's Centre for Drug Delivery Research. It went on to sponsor CRDDS2015 and the 6th MTERMS in 2016.
