About the workshop
The Tissue Engineering Centre at the UKM Medical Centre (UKMMC) in Kuala Lumpur ran the Immunostaining and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) Workshop from 19 to 21 August 2014. It was a basic course with demonstrations and hands-on work, and the participants came from universities including UM, UKM, UPM, USM and IMU.
Three days, from staining to imaging
Day one introduced immunostaining and gave hands-on practice in fluorescence staining of fixed cultured human cells and tissues, and of live human cells with time-lapse imaging. Day two covered the basic concepts and current uses of CLSM, and recent developments in super-resolution microscopy. On day three, the participants captured fluorescence images on the confocal microscope and analysed them. The photographs show the opening morning in the centre's meeting room, with the programme on the screen, and the participants in laboratory gowns in the centre's laboratory.
