Prima Nexus ran four hands-on ELISA workshops and a cell culture workshop at Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2019

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at January to November 2019.

SERDANG, 26 November 2019: Prima Nexus held four hands-on ELISA workshops at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2019, the 8th to the 11th in its series, in the laboratories of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Serdang. The 8th ran on 5 March, the 9th on 25 June, the 10th on 19 September and the 11th on 26 November. In March, Prima Nexus and the faculty also co-organised a two-day workshop on cell culture and the MTT assay.

Four ELISA workshops in one year

An ELISA detects and measures a specific protein in a sample, and each workshop takes participants through one at the bench. The 8th Protein Detection ELISA Hands-on Workshop ran on 5 March in the faculty's Human Anatomy Lab, and the 9th followed on 25 June in the Laboratory of Human Anatomy. The 10th ELISA Hands-On Workshop, on 19 September, was held in the Radioisotope Lab. Postgraduate students and researchers from seven universities and colleges took part, and worked through an ELISA from preparing the samples to reading the plate. The 11th ran on 26 November in the Radioisotope Lab (Makmal Radioisotop) on Level G of the faculty.

Cell culture and the MTT assay

On 12 and 13 March, Prima Nexus and the faculty co-organised the 2nd Fundamental Cell Culture and MTT Assay Demonstration Workshop. Day one ran in the Clinical Skills Lab in Block B, and day two in the Laboratory of Human Anatomy in Block D. The MTT assay measures how a compound affects the survival of cells. The workshop followed an earlier run at UPM in November 2018, told in our story on the 2018 cell culture workshops.

Prima Nexus at UPM

Prima Nexus organised the 9th and 10th ELISA workshops, and co-organised the 8th, the 11th and the cell culture workshop with the faculty. It had co-organised three ELISA workshops at UPM in 2018, told in our 2018 workshop story. Elsewhere at UPM in 2019, Prima Nexus sponsored the Industrial Chemistry Seminar (Seminar Kimia Industri) at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, on 15 January, co-organised two rodent care and use workshops with COMeT, and sponsored a workshop on identifying bacteria and fungi.
