UPM's COMeT ran its Workshop on the Care & Use of Rodents in Research twice in 2019, in April and September, with Prima Nexus as co-organiser. At UiTM Puncak Alam, Prima Nexus was invited to speak at the 11th rodent workshop.

SERDANG, 25 September 2019: Prima Nexus co-organised the Workshop on the Care & Use of Rodents in Research twice in 2019 with the Comparative Medicine and Technology Unit (COMeT) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM): on 24 and 25 April, and again on 25 and 26 September. In March, Prima Nexus was invited to speak at the 11th Workshop on Laboratory Rodents (Rats and Mice) Care and Use at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Puncak Alam.
Two runs at UPM
The April workshop ran over two days, at UPM's Institute of Bioscience on day one and at COMeT on day two. The September run, the second of the year, was held in the Tongkat Ali Room at the Institute of Bioscience and at COMeT. It was organised jointly by Prima Nexus, COMeT and UPM's institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC), the committee that reviews research involving animals before it starts.
Lectures and hands-on sessions
In September, the lectures covered the IACUC forms, nutrition, statistics, rodent anatomy, ethics, pain management and humane end points. A Prima Nexus representative was invited to speak, on molecular work after an animal study. Hands-on sessions followed on handling mice and rats and taking blood samples. The speakers included Mohamad Ismail Baharom of COMeT, Dr Nur Fazila Saulol Hamid, Prof Dr Goh Yong Meng, Assoc Prof Dr Chen Hui Cheng and Dr Mohd Hafidz Mohd Izhar.
An invitation to speak at UiTM
At UiTM Puncak Alam, the Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM) of the Faculty of Pharmacy held the 11th Workshop on Laboratory Rodents (Rats and Mice) Care and Use on 26 and 27 March, in the faculty's gallery in Block FF-1 and at LAFAM in Block FF-5, and Prima Nexus was invited to speak. Prima Nexus had sponsored the 9th workshop in the series in April 2018, told in our 2018 story on laboratory animal science, and COMeT's 2018 rodent workshop, told in our story on late 2018.
