Prima Nexus co-organised hands-on ELISA, flow cytometry and HPLC workshops at UM, UKM and UPM in 2018

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at March to November 2018.

SERDANG, 13 November 2018: Prima Nexus co-organised six laboratory workshops with university laboratories in 2018: an intensive ELISA workshop at Universiti Malaya (UM) on 20 March, an ELISA workshop at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on 17 April, a two-day flow cytometry workshop at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on 17 and 18 July, an HPLC workshop at UPM on 24 July, and two more ELISA workshops at UPM, on 10 October and 13 November.

ELISA at UM and UPM

An ELISA detects and measures a specific protein in a sample. The year's ELISA workshops began at UM on 20 March, with an Intensive ELISA Hands-on Workshop in CMBL, on Level 4 of the Faculty of Medicine. At UPM, Prima Nexus co-organised an ELISA Hands-on Workshop with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Serdang on 17 April, and the UPM ELISA Intensive Workshop on 10 October. On 13 November it co-organised one more Intensive ELISA Hands-on Workshop with the faculty's Department of Human Anatomy, in the Human Anatomy Lab on Level G.

Two days of flow cytometry at UKM

On 17 and 18 July, Prima Nexus and the Toxicology Group, UKM, ran a two-day hands-on flow cytometry workshop at the Toxicology Laboratory on UKM's Kuala Lumpur campus, on Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz. Flow cytometry measures the cells in a sample one by one as they flow past a laser. The workshop covered the principles of flow cytometry, apoptosis and cell cycle analysis, multicolour analysis with compensation, and ModFit LT software, and each day combined talks in the lecture room with practical sessions in the laboratory.

HPLC at UPM, and Prima Nexus's part

On 24 July, Prima Nexus co-organised an HPLC Hands on Workshop with UPM's Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, in Nutrition Labs 1 and 2 on Level 5 of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. HPLC, high-performance liquid chromatography, separates the compounds in a sample so that each can be measured. Prima Nexus co-organised all six workshops with the host laboratories, and had co-organised ELISA workshops with CMBL in 2016 and 2017.
