SHAH ALAM, 24 May 2017: Prima Nexus sponsored four university research meetings in April and May 2017: the 7th Dental Students' Symposium at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Sungai Buloh, the 8th Malaysian Symposium of Biomedical Sciences at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Kuantan, the 28th Intervarsity Biochemistry Seminar at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, and the 8th Medical & Health Sciences Symposium at Management and Science University (MSU) in Shah Alam on 24 May.
Dentistry at UiTM, biomedical science at IIUM
The UiTM Faculty of Dentistry described its symposium as its annual students' conference, open to undergraduate and postgraduate students and to invited international delegates, on the theme Integrative Dentistry: from Inception to Revolutionary Research. Its banner listed presentations by undergraduate and postgraduate students, and poster and video competitions. In Kuantan, the Department of Biomedical Science at IIUM hosted the 8th Malaysian Symposium of Biomedical Sciences, a meeting organised by students, for students. They presented their work in oral sessions and a judged poster session, and the programme also listed keynote speakers, a forum and a biomedical science quiz.
Biochemistry at UCSI University, health sciences at MSU
The 28th Intervarsity Biochemistry Seminar (IBS 2017) was hosted by the Faculty of Applied Sciences at UCSI University in its Le Quadri Ballroom in Cheras, and organised with the Faculty of Applied Sciences Student Association (SASSA) and the Malaysian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (MSBMB), on the theme Achieve and Breakthrough: Unravelling the Biochemistry of Life. Each participating university could send up to two oral presenters and five poster presenters. At MSU, the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences organised the 8th Medical & Health Sciences Symposium with the International Medical School and the School of Pharmacy, on the theme Exploring Innovations in Health, with Prof. Myrtati D. Artaria of Universitas Airlangga as the keynote speaker.
Prima Nexus's part
Prima Nexus sponsored all four meetings. At MSU, Prima Nexus project coordinators were invited to give a sharing session in the Performing Arts Theatre. It explained why a student might take up a master's or PhD in the life sciences and what support a postgraduate student needs, from workshops and equipment to supervisors and lab mates, and then how Prima Nexus could help, including with multiplex assays, genomics, flow cytometry and animal research.
