From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at March to August 2018.

BANGI, 30 July 2018: Prima Nexus sponsored the 2nd LASAM Workshop on IACUC and the 6th National Conference on Laboratory Animal Science (NCLAS), held by the Laboratory Animal Science Association of Malaysia (LASAM) at Avenue Garden Hotel, Bangi, from 30 July to 2 August 2018. Earlier in the year, Prima Nexus had co-organised a seminar on animal research at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and sponsored two care and use workshops at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Animal welfare for better research

LASAM held the 2nd LASAM Workshop on IACUC on 30 and 31 July 2018, followed by the 6th National Conference on Laboratory Animal Science on 1 and 2 August, at Avenue Garden Hotel, Bangi, Selangor. An IACUC is an institutional animal care and use committee, the committee that reviews research involving animals before it starts. The programme covered the Animal Welfare Act, the work of these committees, Good Laboratory Practice and the training of people who work with laboratory animals. Speakers came from the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia, the Department of Standards Malaysia, AAALAC International, universities and research institutes.

Rodents and rabbits at UiTM, and a seminar at USM

At UiTM Puncak Alam, the Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM) of the Faculty of Pharmacy ran two care and use workshops, both sponsored by Prima Nexus. The 9th Workshop on Laboratory Rodents (Rats and Mice) Care and Use ran on 24 and 25 April, in the faculty's gallery on Level 5 of Block FF-1 and at LAFAM in Block FF-5. The 3rd Workshop on Laboratory Rabbits Care and Use followed on 14 and 15 May, and Prima Nexus was invited to speak there. Earlier, on 20 March, Prima Nexus co-organised a seminar with USM ARASC in the School of Medical Sciences at the USM Health Campus, Kubang Kerian, titled Basic Requirement in Animal Research: Appropriate Animal Models and Animal Facility.

Prima Nexus as a sponsor

Prima Nexus sponsored the Bangi conference, both UiTM workshops and the 10th MAVP Conference in Ipoh, and co-organised the USM seminar. It had sponsored LAFAM's 1st Laboratory Animal Workshop on Rabbits and LASAM's 5th NCLAS, both in 2016.
