The session

The session took place on Thursday 27 March 2014 at Le Meridien Hotel, KL Sentral, under the title "Introduction and Understanding the Importance of Using Quality Diets & Bedding for Research Lab Animals". The day ran from a welcome at 8.30am to closing remarks at 4.30pm, with four topic sessions, each ending with 15 minutes of questions.

What the talks covered

The morning talks explained the differences between standard, certified and irradiated diets, food safety and quality control in diet manufacturing, and how to choose a diet that meets the needs of both the animals and the study. After lunch, a session compared the same three types of bedding and explained why nesting material matters for the way animals keep their body temperature steady. An open forum and discussion followed.

Prima Nexus's part

Prima Nexus organised the day, gave the agenda briefing in the morning and the closing remarks in the afternoon. The speakers were George Nugent, Director of LabDiet / TestDiet, and Dr Carrie L. Schultz of LabDiet / TestDiet. For laboratory animal work today, see the animal studies page.
