Prima Nexus sponsored UiTM's 1st Laboratory Animal Workshop on Rabbits in February 2016

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at February 2016.

PUNCAK ALAM, 23 February 2016: Prima Nexus sponsored the 1st Laboratory Animal Workshop on Rabbits, held on 23 and 24 February 2016 by the Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), in Puncak Alam. Prima Nexus also supported two researchers from the Malaysian Institute of Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals (IPharm) to attend the workshop.

A first workshop on rabbits

The workshop was hosted by the Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM, at its Puncak Alam campus. As its name says, it was the first workshop on rabbits in the LAFAM series, which had also held a workshop on the care and use of laboratory animals in 2015. The talks took place in a lecture room, with participants seated at long tables and following along in their workshop notes.

Reading pain in a rabbit's face

One session, seen in the photos, dealt with aberrant behaviour and pain in rabbits. Its slide showed the Rabbit Grimace Scale: photographs of rabbits' faces, with a sign such as cheek flattening scored as not present, moderately present or obviously present. A grimace scale lets researchers judge pain from an animal's face. Everyone gathered in the lecture room for the group photo.

Prima Nexus's part

Prima Nexus sponsored the workshop and supported two researchers from IPharm, part of the National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM), to attend. The Prima Nexus team also ran a photo booth with a Prima Nexus backdrop and props, where participants posed and took away an instant print.
