Prima Nexus sponsored INFECTIONS 2015 in Putrajaya and a UiTM national seminar on microbial threats

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at April and September 2015.

SUNGAI BULOH, 2 September 2015: In 2015, Prima Nexus sponsored a conference and a national seminar on infectious disease. INFECTIONS 2015, a conference held by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), took place at IOI Marriott Putrajaya on 7 and 8 April. On 2 September, the Faculty of Medicine of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) held a one-day National Seminar on Emerging & Re-emerging Microbial Threats in the Era of Globalization at its Sungai Buloh campus.

INFECTIONS 2015 in Putrajaya

UPM held INFECTIONS 2015 at IOI Marriott Putrajaya on 7 and 8 April, and Prima Nexus was a sponsor. Two years later, Prima Nexus also sponsored INFECTIONS 2017 at UPM, told in our 2017 story on immunology, infection and cancer meetings.

Microbial threats at UiTM Sungai Buloh

The Microbiology Discipline, in the Cluster of Laboratory Medical Sciences at UiTM's Faculty of Medicine, organised the seminar in Auditorium 3 of the Academic Building. It brought together clinicians, researchers, microbiologists and academics to share their experience of infectious diseases. Emerging infections are those newly seen in a population, and re-emerging infections are ones that return after they had been brought under control.

The morning session looked at infections that followed the major floods of December 2014 and early 2015, with talks on post-flood infections, leptospirosis, cholera and public health. The afternoon covered bacterial respiratory infections, vaccine development, dengue, Ebola preparedness in Malaysia and influenza. Speakers came from hospitals in Kota Bharu and Johor Bahru, the Kelantan State Health Department, the Institute for Medical Research, the Ministry of Health, UiTM, UPM, the University of Southampton and industry, and both sessions ended with questions from the floor.
