Prima Nexus sponsored immunology, infection and cancer research meetings at Universiti Malaya and UPM in 2017

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at July to October 2017.

SERDANG, 24 October 2017: Prima Nexus sponsored INFECTIONS 2017, a conference hosted by the medical microbiology department of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) at its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Serdang on 24 and 25 October 2017. Since July it had also sponsored the 2nd Basic & Clinical Immunology Course at Universiti Malaya (UM), led by Professor Shiv Pillai of Harvard Medical School and Professor Liew Foo Yew of the University of Glasgow, an immunohistochemistry workshop at UM, and the Putra Cancer Research Symposium 2017 and an immunology school at UPM.

Five days of immunology at Universiti Malaya

The course ran from 5 to 9 July 2017 in Auditorium T.J. Danaraj at the Faculty of Medicine, UM, organised by the university's Department of Medical Microbiology and Department of Parasitology for biomedical students, clinicians, academics and scientists. Its lectures covered the molecules, mediators and cells behind immune responses, from MHC and antigen receptors to cytokines, chemokines, T and B lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells, with a focus on immune responses against infectious diseases, cancer, autoimmunity and allergy. Professor Pillai is one of the authors of the textbook Cellular and Molecular Immunology, and Professor Liew is known for his work on T cell heterogeneity and on the role of nitric oxide in regulating the immune system.

Cancer research, immunology and infection at UPM

The Putra Cancer Research Symposium 2017 took place in the auditorium of the Institute of Bioscience, UPM, on 5 and 6 September. It opened with a forum on the current state of cancer management in Malaysia, followed by invited talks ranging from colorectal cancer signalling and leukaemia stem cells to comparative canine cancer research, with speakers from across UPM and from organisations including the National Cancer Council (MAKNA) and Subang Jaya Medical Centre. From 11 to 14 September, the UPM Department of Pathology held the Immunology School and Flow Cytometry Workshop 2017 at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, where INFECTIONS 2017 followed in October.

Prima Nexus's part

Prima Nexus was a sponsor of all five meetings, and at the cancer symposium it had a booth outside the auditorium. The immunohistochemistry hands-on workshop it sponsored on 3 August was held by the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, UM.
