Between June and October 2024, Prima Nexus ran three free online webinars on real-time PCR (RT-PCR): the basics of the method in June, the MIQE guidelines in July, and RNA and DNA extraction in October.

PUCHONG, SELANGOR, 10 October 2024: Prima Nexus ran a series of three free online webinars on real-time PCR (RT-PCR) in 2024, all on Google Meet. The first, the RT-PCR Webinar on Thursday 20 June, covered the basics. The second, on Tuesday 23 July, was a comprehensive guide to the MIQE guidelines. The third, RT-PCR 3.0 on Thursday 10 October, turned to RNA and DNA extraction and to applications of the method.
Starting with the basics
Real-time PCR copies a chosen stretch of DNA over and over and measures it as the reaction runs, so researchers can tell how much of a particular gene is in a sample; when the target is RNA, it is first copied into DNA. The first webinar ran from 11 am to 1 pm on 20 June. It covered the fundamentals of RT-PCR and basic calculations, current applications, sample preparation and extraction, and data analysis.
A guide to the MIQE guidelines
The second webinar, Real-time PCR Webinar 2.0: A Comprehensive Guide Following MIQE Guidelines, ran from 10.30 am to 12 pm on 23 July. MIQE is short for the Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments: a checklist of what a real-time PCR study should report, so that others can judge the data and repeat the work. The guidelines cover nine areas: experimental design, sample handling, nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, target information, primers and probes, assay details, validation and data analysis.
Extraction and applications
RT-PCR 3.0: Mastering Extraction and Cutting-Edge Applications followed from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm on 10 October. It covered the fundamentals of RNA and DNA extraction, the extraction process step by step, and case studies and applications, with tips on troubleshooting. Prima Nexus ran the series itself, in the same year as its hands-on ELISA workshops at universities, such as the one at IMMB, UiTM Sungai Buloh.
