Prima Nexus was invited to lecture at LAFAM's laboratory animal workshops at UiTM and supported LASAM in 2023

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at March to October 2023.

PUNCAK ALAM, SELANGOR, 10 October 2023: On 7 and 8 March 2023, the Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), ran its 17th Workshop on Laboratory Rodents (Rats and Mice) Care and Use at Puncak Alam, and a Prima Nexus representative was among the lecturers. On 26 September, Prima Nexus supported the Laboratory Animal Science Association of Malaysia (LASAM) Scientific Seminar 2023 and 28th Annual General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, and on 10 and 11 October a Prima Nexus representative was invited to lecture at LAFAM's 6th Workshop on Rabbit Care and Management.

Rats and mice at LAFAM

LAFAM runs the workshop to highlight the care and use of laboratory rodents in research and to train researchers in basic procedures. The lectures covered rodent husbandry, management, behaviour, medicine, surgery and post-mortem, and the practical sessions covered restraint, dosing by mouth with a feeding tube, blood collection and anaesthesia. Lecturers came from UiTM's Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Prima Nexus. The 17 participants came from UiTM's faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry and Applied Sciences, from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and from Quest International University, and all received certificates with the results of their practical examination.

LASAM's seminar in September

LASAM is Malaysia's scientific society for laboratory animal science. It held its Scientific Seminar 2023 and 28th Annual General Meeting at the Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, on 26 September, and Nura Samsuddin of Prima Nexus sat on the organising committee for publicity, as she had for the 2022 seminar.

Rabbits in October

LAFAM's 6th Workshop on Rabbit Care and Management, on 10 and 11 October, mixed lectures with hands-on sessions. It was also open to practising veterinarians, who could earn professional development points, and it looked at the health problems of pet rabbits in Malaysia. Its programme listed a lecture by a Prima Nexus representative on SPF animals, their importance and implications. SPF (specific-pathogen-free) animals are bred and kept free of particular disease-causing organisms, so that hidden infections do not skew research results.
