Prima Nexus Collaborates With UKM's CORE on Hands-On Bioinformatics Workshop for Medical Genetics

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 August 2026: Prima Nexus Sdn Bhd is collaborating with the Center for Toxicology and Health Risk Studies (CORE) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on “Bioinformatics for Medical Genetics: From Variant to Verdict”, a one-day hands-on workshop on 15 September 2026 at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UKM Kuala Lumpur campus. The workshop is part of CORE's Synergy series (Siri 9/2026).

From a list of variants to a verdict

Many researchers face the same challenge once sequencing is done. Which variants should be prioritised? Which databases and tools should be used? How can a variant be interpreted for potential clinical relevance, and what are the limitations and ethical considerations? The workshop is designed to bridge that gap through practical, hands-on learning.

Sessions are led by Dr Nurul Huda Musa, Dr Aissvarya Shankar and Dr Noor Haliza Mohamed Ibrahim.

What participants cover

• An introduction to medical genetics and genomic data.
• Variant detection, annotation and prioritisation.
• Hands-on use of bioinformatics platforms.
• Clinical interpretation using recognised genomic databases.
• Challenges, limitations and ethics in genomic medicine.

Participants were asked to bring their own laptops for the hands-on sessions.
