The seminar and its hosts

The seminar, New Animal Models of Type 2 Diabetes: SDT and SDT Fatty Rat, ran from 10am to 12pm in Meeting Room 2 (Bilik Mesyuarat 2) of the faculty, hosted with UPM's Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. It was one stop on a three-day tour by the two speakers through Thailand and Malaysia, and they gave a second Malaysian seminar at the UKM Medical Centre the same afternoon.

Two rat models of type 2 diabetes

Dr Tomohiko Sasase presented the Spontaneously Diabetic Torii (SDT) rat, a model of type 2 diabetes in which the rats are not obese. Dr Takeshi Ohta presented the SDT fatty rat, a model in which the rats are obese. Together, the two talks covered a non-obese and an obese form of the disease in one morning.

Prima Nexus's part

Prima Nexus co-organised the seminar with a laboratory animal company based in Bangkok. It took the registrations, helped plan the speakers' time in Malaysia and issued certificates of attendance. For laboratory animal work today, see the animal studies page.
