USM Kubang Kerian ELISA Demonstration Workshop

A workshop for the Kubang Kerian campus
The School of Medical Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hosted the workshop at its Central Research Laboratory on the USM Health Campus in Kubang Kerian, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. It was open to students and staff of the campus, and was aimed at those whose work uses ELISA. Participants came from several departments and research groups, including the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM).
From sample preparation to data analysis
The day followed one full ELISA run, using a rat/mouse insulin ELISA kit. After registration and a short introduction to Prima Nexus, a briefing explained how ELISA works. Participants then prepared the reagents, standards and samples, and took the plate through each step: incubation, plate washing, adding the enzyme, adding the substrate and reading the plate. The incubation periods were used for a session on ELISA troubleshooting and an open discussion, and the day closed with data analysis.
What Prima Nexus did
Prima Nexus proposed the workshop to the School of Medical Sciences in October 2017 and co-organised it with the School. Ahead of the day, Prima Nexus sent the participant folders to the Central Research Laboratory. The programme opened with a short introduction to Prima Nexus, and the team also gave a talk on the power of multiplex immunoassays, which measure several targets in one sample. Prima Nexus still supports researchers with both methods today, through its ELISA and Luminex services.
