About the seminar
Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) and Prima Nexus organised this seminar together. It took place on the morning of Tuesday 4 July 2017 in room D204-2, Block D, on the TAR UC campus in Kuala Lumpur. Places were limited, and seats were given on a first come, first served basis.
What the programme covered
The speaker was Dr Raymond Leong Lek Mun of Prima Nexus. The seminar ran from 10 am to noon. His first talk compared Western blot and ELISA, two common methods for detecting proteins. He then moved on to bead-based technology, and the morning closed with a question and answer session.
The seminar introduced direct, multiplexed and digital detection of DNA, RNA and protein biomarkers, using bead-based and branched-DNA technology. Multiplexed means that several markers are measured together in one run, instead of one test for each marker. The aim was to show participants how these methods could be used in their own molecular research.
Prima Nexus's part
Prima Nexus provided the speaker for both talks and shared the organising work with TAR UC. Protein detection by ELISA and bead-based multiplex assays is still part of Prima Nexus's work: today it runs these tests for researchers, as described on the ELISA and Luminex services page.
