Prima Nexus ran online webinars on Western blot, immunohistochemistry and the BCA protein assay in late 2024

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at September to November 2024.

PUCHONG, SELANGOR, 26 November 2024: Prima Nexus ran four online webinars on protein methods between September and November 2024. Western Blot: A Powerful Tool in Proteomic Analysis came first, on 4 September, followed by a webinar on immunohistochemistry (IHC) on 19 September. Western Blot Webinar 2.0: Blot Like a Pro followed on 21 November, and on 26 November a webinar titled Quantifying Protein with Precision covered the BCA assay.

Western blot, in two parts

A Western blot separates the proteins in a sample by size and uses antibodies to detect one of them. The first webinar, Western Blot: A Powerful Tool in Proteomic Analysis, ran from 2 pm to 3.30 pm on Wednesday 4 September on Google Meet. It covered the essentials of the method, a full understanding of the protocol workflow, and tips and tricks for effective protein expression.

Blot like a pro

Western Blot Webinar 2.0, subtitled Blot Like a Pro, followed from 2.30 pm to 4 pm on Thursday 21 November, also on Google Meet, and registration was free. It compared Western blot with ELISA, and when to use which, gave tips for choosing primary and secondary antibodies, and covered imaging, gel data analysis and troubleshooting.

Tissue staining and total protein

Immunohistochemistry (IHC), the topic on 19 September, uses antibodies to show where a protein sits in a thin slice of tissue. On 26 November, the webinar Quantifying Protein with Precision covered the BCA assay, a colour test that measures the total amount of protein in a sample, often used before a Western blot so that each lane holds the same amount of protein.
