SHAH ALAM, 24 August 2015: Prima Nexus was a sponsor and exhibitor at the 29th Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP), held on 24 and 25 August 2015 at Setia City Convention Centre, Shah Alam. The meeting was organised by the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), together with MSPP. Prima Nexus had a booth at the exhibition and prepared the certificates and name tags for the meeting.

A two-day meeting on biomolecules

The theme of the meeting was "Biomolecules in Science and Health". After the opening ceremony, Professor Nafeeza Mohd Ismail, President of MSPP, gave the keynote lecture on molecules as the basis for precision medicine. Three plenary lectures followed over the two days: Professor Gordon Williams of Harvard Medical School on personalised medicine, Professor N Sreeharan of TranScrip and King's College London on developing new medicines, and Professor Zalina Ismail of Universiti Sains Malaysia on biomolecules and the brain. Four symposia covered health and the environment, molecular targets in advanced therapeutics, and therapeutic strategies in cardio-renal diseases. The last session was a panel discussion on the challenges in research and postgraduate training in physiology and pharmacology in Malaysia, followed by the award presentation and closing remarks.

Prima Nexus at the meeting

The programme book named Prima Nexus as a sponsor of the meeting, and the company's advertisement was printed on the back cover of the abstract book. Prima Nexus had Booth No. 4 at the exhibition in the convention centre foyer, open from 10am to 5pm on both days. The company also prepared the certificates of presentation for speakers and presenters, and the name tags for participants, speakers, VIP guests and the organising committee. A photo wall with the Prima Nexus logo and science-themed props was used by many delegates. Visitors to the booth could enter a lucky draw, and the entry form asked about their area of research and any animal strain of interest. After the meeting, the organising committee wrote to Prima Nexus to thank the company for its sponsorship.

What it meant for researchers

In the programme book, the organising chairperson described the meeting as MSPP's largest annual event for the science and practice of pharmacology and physiology. Many of the oral and poster presentations reported studies in rats and mice, and a special lecture by Professor Debra SM Sim of University of Malaya asked why animal studies at the bench fail at the bedside. Posters were grouped in eight areas, including cardiovascular and renal function, herbal and natural products, obesity and metabolism, and reproduction.
