Prima Nexus ran RT-PCR, multiplex and ELISA workshops at UiTM, MSU and UKM in 2023

From the Prima Nexus archive: a look back at February to November 2023.

SHAH ALAM, SELANGOR, 23 November 2023: On 7 March 2023, Prima Nexus ran an Advanced Multiplex & RT-PCR Workshop in Biology Lab 1, on level 9 of the Science Tower at Management and Science University (MSU), Shah Alam. It was part of Prima Nexus's High Impact Workshop Series 2023, which opened on 1 February with an Advanced RT-PCR Workshop at the Institute of Medical Molecular Biotechnology (IMMB), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Sungai Buloh. In November, Prima Nexus ran ELISA support trainings at IMMB on 2 November and at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Kuala Lumpur, on 23 November.

Multiplex and RT-PCR at MSU

Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) copies a chosen stretch of DNA over and over and measures it as the reaction runs, so researchers can tell how much of a particular gene is in a sample. A multiplex immunoassay measures many proteins in one small sample at the same time. The one-hour session was free to attend, and many of the participants were from MSU. The photos show a Prima Nexus presenter taking the room through phenol-chloroform extraction, a way of separating DNA and RNA from the rest of a sample, and the threshold cycle, the cycle at which the signal of a real-time PCR crosses a set level of detection.

Opening the series at IMMB

The series opened on 1 February at IMMB, UiTM Sungai Buloh, with the Advanced RT-PCR Workshop: Publish your RT-PCR data in high impact journal with easy and fast steps. Registration was free, most of those who signed up were from UiTM, and Prima Nexus sent certificates of participation the next day.

ELISA support training in November

ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) uses antibodies to measure a specific protein in a sample. On 2 November, Prima Nexus returned to IMMB for a free ELISA support training in its Proteomics Laboratory, with Dr Ramya Dewi as speaker. On 23 November, she led an ELISA support training in the Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory of UKM's Faculty of Pharmacy in Kuala Lumpur, a demonstration session open to staff and students of the campus.
