Prima Nexus Managing Partner Invited to National Workshop on Malaysia's Precision Medicine Strategic Plan

PUCHONG, SELANGOR, 4 November 2025: Prima Nexus Managing Partner Nura Samsuddin was invited to the Bengkel Libat Urus Pelan Strategik dan Pelaksanaan Perubatan Jitu, a stakeholder engagement workshop on the strategic plan and implementation of precision medicine in Malaysia, organised by the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) under the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

Personalised, predictive and precise

The session marks the beginning of Malaysia's collective move towards a healthcare system that is personalised, predictive and precise, the same path many advanced nations have taken.

The MOH and MOSTI initiative engaged industry leaders, scientists and innovators, led by Prof. Soo-Hwang Teo, reflecting a forward-looking vision that recognises collaboration as the key driver of progress.

From genomic data to health outcomes

In related precision medicine discussions with KKM and MOSTI, the focus was on integrating genomic data into national healthcare, establishing data infrastructure and developing local expertise to interpret and apply findings.

As Nura noted afterwards, Malaysia's genetic diversity, shaped by centuries of migration and a multiethnic heritage, gives the country a strong foundation for population-specific genomics, even as gaps remain in clinical implementation, genetic counselling capacity and ethical governance for gene editing and data use. With groundwork in place through initiatives such as the MyGENOM project and the National Precision Medicine Framework, she sees Malaysia as well placed to lead the region in personalised healthcare.
