KUALA LUMPUR, 5 October 2026: Prima Nexus Sdn Bhd has concluded the 2026 cycle of its Biomarker Research Fund (BRF), an industry-led initiative that helps investigators across Malaysia gain access to biomarker research capabilities for biomedical and translational research. The cycle closed on 30 September 2026, having allocated RM150,000 in research support to 67 researchers from 19 universities and research institutions.
A national research community
The 2026 cycle engaged researchers from public universities, private universities and national research institutions. Participating institutions included UiTM, USM, UKM, UniSZA, MSU, IMR, IIUM, UPM, USIM, UPNM, UMS, Sunway University, Monash University Malaysia, NUMed, Universiti Malaya, IMU University, MAHSA University, UniKL and the University of Cyberjaya.
The fund opened in March 2026 and was extended as Biomarker Research Fund 2.0 until 30 September 2026, so that more research teams could take part.
What the research covered
Participating researchers reported work spanning inflammation, metabolic disorders, herbal and natural products, immunology, cardiovascular disease, cancer and neuroscience. Their projects used serum and plasma, cell culture, tissue and saliva, across fundamental, preclinical and human research settings.
Inflammation and immune-related research was the largest area, with 119 assay kits across 22 cases. Cardiovascular and metabolic research, tissue repair and growth, oxidative stress, cellular stress and death, hormonal research and neuroscience were also represented. IL-6, TNF-α and IL-1β were among the biomarkers investigated most often, and more than half of the assays were for human samples, alongside research in established animal and experimental models.
From research access to research partnership
Rather than supplying laboratory materials alone, the fund gave researchers a structured way to match their scientific questions with the right biomarker strategy, assay requirements and technical considerations. It shows how industry can add to research capacity as an enabling partner, not only as a provider of technology.
For Prima Nexus, the fund is part of a longer-term commitment to strengthening the link between Malaysian researchers, institutions and scientific industry, and to helping promising research questions move from experimental design to measurable biological evidence. Research teams planning a biomarker study can find out more about our ELISA and Luminex multiplex immunoassay services.
