A yearly research day at UKM's Faculty of Pharmacy
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and its Postgraduate Society organised Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Day 2015 on 15 and 16 April at the UKM Kuala Lumpur campus. The faculty held the research day every year, so that academic staff and postgraduate students could share their research and exchange ideas. The 2015 theme was "Moving Towards Scientific Excellence", and the event also welcomed participants from other faculties and from outside UKM.
Workshops, lectures and posters
The first day was given to two pre-seminar workshops. In the morning, Prof. Dr. Simon Gibbons of the UCL School of Pharmacy led a workshop on how to write a manuscript for a Q1 journal. In the afternoon, Workshop 2 in the T1BE Hall covered the importance of specific pathogen free (SPF) animals and innovation in multiplexing.
The main event on 16 April began with welcoming speeches and an opening ceremony, followed by two plenary lectures: Prof. Dr. Simon Gibbons on novel psychoactive substances, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wong Tin Wui of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) on the use of microwaves in drug delivery. Postgraduate students then presented their research in two parallel oral sessions and a poster session, and the day closed with a prize-giving ceremony.
Prima Nexus's part in the programme
Prima Nexus was invited to deliver Workshop 2, which Ms Surani Sukor of Prima Nexus led together with Mr James Hoffman. Prima Nexus also sponsored workshop places for postgraduate students of the faculty, and the organisers thanked the company in the event programme book. Laboratory animals and multiplex testing are still part of what Prima Nexus offers researchers today, through its animal study services and multiplex immunoassays.
