Flow Cytometer Workshop on Cell Cycle Analysis (PI/RNase Staining)
On 18 May 2017, Prima Nexus and NOCERAL at Universiti Malaya co-organised a one-day, hands-on workshop on cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry.

A hands-on workshop at Universiti Malaya
NOCERAL, part of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya, co-organised the workshop with Prima Nexus. It ran from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. Seats were limited to 15 participants, and lunch was provided.
What participants did
The day covered cell cycle analysis with PI/RNase staining. The two trainers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Rao Balaji and Raymond Leong Lek Mun of Prima Nexus. After a briefing in a meeting room, participants put on lab coats, masks and hair covers and moved into the laboratory. There they prepared samples at the bench, worked with pipettes and used the centrifuge.
Participants could bring up to two of their own cell samples, such as one untreated and one treated sample, for the hands-on experiments. The workshop flyer also listed other uses of flow cytometry, including apoptosis and necrosis detection, mitochondrial membrane potential, oxidative stress markers, intracellular calcium and CD marker detection.

Prima Nexus co-organised the workshop with NOCERAL, and one of the two trainers, Raymond Leong Lek Mun, came from Prima Nexus. Flow cytometry is one of the services listed under Prima Nexus research services.
