Preclinical Models for Drug Development

A three-day workshop at IMR

The Molecular Pathology Unit of the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) organised the workshop from 5 to 7 December 2016 in Meeting Room 2 (BM2) at IMR, Kuala Lumpur. Sessions ran from 8.30am to 4.30pm each day. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) sponsored the workshop with the Malaysian Institute of Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals (IPharm). The invitation noted that seats were limited.

The speaker and the programme

The visiting speaker was Dr Elisa de Stanchina, head of the Antitumor Assessment Core Facility at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Her facility was set up in 2003 to support the early discovery of cancer drugs. It works with investigators to set up mouse models, to design and run pharmacokinetic, toxicity and efficacy studies, and to choose the best formulation, route and treatment schedule for each new compound, alone or in combination with other agents. One talk covered testing drug combinations to overcome resistance to B-Raf inhibitors.

Prima Nexus's part

Prima Nexus sponsored the workshop in kind, providing delegate sets for the participants. Each set held a Prima Nexus bag, a folder, a pen and an A5 notepad. Researchers now planning preclinical work in animal models can read how Prima Nexus supports these studies on our animal studies page.
