Malaysian Society for Microbiology Postgraduate Seminar (MSMPS 2016)

Postgraduate students from Malaysian universities met at UKM in Bangi for a day of talks and posters on microbiology research. Prima Nexus supported the seminar as a sponsor.

A seminar for microbiology postgraduates

The Malaysian Society for Microbiology organised MSMPS 2016 jointly with the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). It took place on 24 August 2016 at the faculty's Kompleks Kedekanan in Bangi. The seminar revived a postgraduate seminar that had earlier run under the auspices of UNESCO, and it was open to postgraduate students from public and private universities across Malaysia. Its theme was Stimulating Excellence in Microbiology Through Human Resource Development.

Talks, posters and a new student chapter

The one-day programme included a keynote lecture and oral and poster presentations by the students. Research was invited across agricultural, food, industrial, environmental, medical and general microbiology, and microbial genomics and molecular biology. The day also included student awards and the launch of a student chapter of the American Society for Microbiology. Participants could submit a full research article for review, with accepted papers planned for a book published by Penerbit UKM in 2017.
