National Seminar on Emerging & Re-emerging Microbial Threats in the Era of Globalization
A one-day national seminar at the UiTM Faculty of Medicine in Sungai Buloh on 2 September 2015, on infectious diseases that are new or returning in Malaysia. Prima Nexus sponsored the seminar.

Who organised it
The Microbiology Discipline, Cluster of Laboratory Medical Sciences, at the Faculty of Medicine of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) organised the seminar in Auditorium 3 of the Academic Building. It brought together clinicians, researchers, microbiologists and academics to share their experience of infectious diseases. The organisers planned name tags for about 180 people: 150 participants, 12 speakers and 20 members of the organising committee.
What the programme covered
The morning session looked at infections that followed the major floods of December 2014 and early 2015. The programme booklet listed talks on post-flood infections, leptospirosis, cholera and public health in the morning, then bacterial respiratory infections, vaccine development, dengue, Ebola preparedness in Malaysia and influenza in the afternoon. Speakers came from hospitals in Kota Bharu and Johor Bahru, the Kelantan State Health Department, the Institute for Medical Research, the Ministry of Health, UiTM, Universiti Putra Malaysia, the University of Southampton and industry. Both sessions ended with questions from the floor.
