Immunostaining, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) & Image Analysis Workshop

Prima Nexus supported a three-day hands-on workshop on immunostaining, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and image analysis at the Tissue Engineering Centre, UKM Medical Centre, from 18 to 20 August 2015.

The workshop and its host

The Tissue Engineering Centre of the UKM Medical Centre in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, held the workshop over three days, chaired by Dr Shiplu Roy Chowdhury of the centre. It was one of three workshops at the centre that Prima Nexus supported in 2015, after flow cytometry in April and good manufacturing practice for cell and tissue production in May.

Hands-on in the laboratory

Immunostaining uses antibodies to mark chosen proteins in cells or tissue. A confocal laser scanning microscope then takes sharp images of the marked cells, and image analysis software measures what the images show. On the first day, participants in laboratory gowns worked through the steps at the benches of the centre's laboratory.
