LASAM Scientific Seminar & 20th Annual General Meeting
The Laboratory Animal Science Association of Malaysia (LASAM) held a scientific seminar and its 20th Annual General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 13 August 2015, sponsored by Prima Nexus.

A morning of talks and a members' meeting
The day ran from 8.30 am to 2.00 pm at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, KL Sentral. It mixed scientific talks with the association's yearly meeting of members, set for 10.30 to 11.30 am. The meeting agenda included the president's address, the minutes of the 19th meeting and the election of the executive committee for 2015 to 2017. Name tags were printed for four speakers, 49 participants and two Prima Nexus staff as sponsors.
Animal welfare and research
Dato' Dr Quaza Nizamuddin Hassan Nizam of the Department of Veterinary Services spoke on Malaysia's Animal Welfare Act, then still a bill, and what it would mean for animal research. He covered licences for research, testing and teaching that use animals, and the 3Rs: replace, reduce and refine. His slides also said the rules for research animals would be based on the Malaysian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, which LASAM prepared.
The other speakers were Dr Teng Kim Tiu of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, and Dr Lim Ban Keong and Ms Seetha Jaganathan of Rhone Ma Group. Photos from the day also show a talk on xMAP technology, a bead-based method that measures many targets in one sample.
