Supporting Malaysia's Scientific Societies at Their Meetings, Since 2014

The need

Malaysia's scientific societies meet every year, at scientific meetings, seminars, general meetings and student competitions. These are the places where researchers present new work, where students give oral and poster presentations, and where a field discusses the rules it works under. At meetings of the Laboratory Animal Science Association of Malaysia (LASAM), for example, talks covered the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and what it means for animal research.

These meetings are organised by societies and university faculties, and each needs more than speakers: delegate materials, name tags, certificates, registration and a venue.

What Prima Nexus did

At most of these events Prima Nexus was a sponsor. It provided delegate folders, bags, lanyards, pens and notepads, and at some meetings lucky-draw prizes. For the 29th Scientific Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) in 2015, Prima Nexus had a booth and prepared the certificates and name tags. For LASAM, it arranged the venue for the 2015 seminar and ran the online registration for the 2018 seminar. At MSPP 2017, it supported the attendance of seven students from UiTM Sungai Buloh.

Prima Nexus also sponsored student and intervarsity events: the 10th MIFT National Food Science and Technology Competition, the 28th Intervarsity Biochemistry Seminar, Postgraduate Day 2018 at Universiti Putra Malaysia and BrainBee@UKM, a neuroscience competition for students aged 15 to 17.

Prima Nexus people also took part in the societies' own work. KB Lee, a Prima Nexus director, was invited to take part in the LASAM organising committee for the 6th AFLAS Congress in 2014 and looked after its pre-congress workshop. Prima Nexus was invited to give the scientific talk at the 2017 annual general meeting of the Malaysian Society of Toxicology, on laboratory animal strains and rodent health monitoring. Dr Raymond Leong Lek Mun of Prima Nexus was invited to chair an oral presentation session at the 3rd Malaysian Congress of Toxicology in 2017, and Nura Samsuddin was invited to serve on LASAM's sponsorship and publicity teams in 2024 and 2025.

Over the years

The Prima Nexus event archive holds 47 society and university meetings from 2014 to 2025. Most took place between 2014 and 2019, with 13 in 2019 alone, and four are from 2024 and 2025. Prima Nexus was a sponsor at 39 of them, a supporter at six, and was invited to speak at one.

• LASAM: 10 events, from its 19th annual general meeting in 2014 to its 30th in 2025.
• MSPP: six scientific meetings, from the 29th in 2015 to the 38th in 2025.
• The hosts include at least 18 societies, associations and professional bodies, in fields from laboratory animal science and pharmacology to anatomy, stem cells and cancer research.
• The events name at least 14 Malaysian universities, and research institutes and agencies such as the Institute for Medical Research and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board.
• At least 524 participants were listed at the five events with a recorded headcount.

What it means for research teams

For a research team, this means the Prima Nexus team has met Malaysian researchers and students at their own society meetings since 2014, in laboratory animal science, pharmacology, toxicology, molecular biology and other fields.
