USM-FRIM Joint Webinar 2025: Herbal Medicine & Drug Discovery
The School of Dental Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) held a joint webinar on herbal medicine and drug discovery on 20 May 2025, and invited Prima Nexus to take part as an industry collaborator.

About the webinar
The webinar was organised by the School of Dental Sciences, USM Health Campus, in collaboration with the Natural Products Division of FRIM, as part of the USM-FRIM memorandum of understanding. It ran online on Tuesday 20 May 2025, from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm, and USM staff could earn CPD points for attending.
Assoc. Prof. Dr Hasmah Abdullah of the USM School of Health Sciences spoke on bioassay-guided isolation in drug discovery, with the plants Hydnophytum formicarum and Quercus infectoria as her examples. Dr Ling Sui Kong of the FRIM Natural Products Division spoke on what affects the standardisation and quality control of herbal materials. Dr Khairul Bariah Ahmad Amin Noordin of the School of Dental Sciences moderated.

USM invited Prima Nexus to take part as an industry collaborator, and the programme set aside a company talk between the two lectures.
