It is with great pleasure to announce that the Malaysian Natural Products Society (MNPS) will be hosting ASOMPS 2020. We look forward to welcoming you to Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia, a city full of charm and rich culture.
Translating scientific research findings for the benefit of society is a major contemporary and future challenge for research and development programs, particularly relating to the human reliance on bio-resources for health, well-being, and food security. Given limited fiscal resources, more than ever, impactful scientific research in natural products must be intimately contextualized with societal needs, especially in the face of challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity and indigenous knowledge, and other anthropogenic outcomes.
In the early years, ASOMPS championed the cause of developing nations with respect to human resource and indigenous resources development, access to modern technologies, and the equitable benefit sharing of bio-resources and knowledge. Several declarations iterating those issues were documented over the last 50 years, including the Manila Declaration (1992) and the Melaka Accord (1994). At this stage in the new millennium, it is timely to assess and measure our achievements and re-strategize the way forward to ensure thatAsian natural product sciences trulytransitionthe benefits of researchto the people in the region.
With the theme “Contextualizing Natural Product Science for Societal Relevance”, ASOMPS XVII 2020, aspires to promote a paradigm shift as to how natural product science in Asia is pursued and conducted to efficiently harness endemic resources towards the sustainable translation of scientific findings for human benefit.
We cordially invite all scientists in various natural product-related research to come together for this momentous event and share your expertise, experience, and ideas, and be inspired by leaders in the field, at this important time.
