2nd Hands-On CRISPR Genome Editing Workshop (HOCGEW 2019)
08 Oct 2019 to 11 Oct 2019
8:00am - 5:00pm
Animal Research Complex, AMDI, USM Bertam, Pulau Pinang
Organized by:
Advanced Medical and Dental Institute
This hands-on, laboratory-based workshop will provide an overview and the experience needed to work with the latest genome editing tool, CRISPR. The workshop will include lectures on the basics of CRISPR experiments, and a discussion session, which will be helpful to anyone who is interested in working on this cutting-edge technology. Participants will learn how to design CRISPR targeting their gene of interest, and conduct downstream experiments crucial in determining the efficacy of this tool. During the workshop, participants will knockdown a gene in a mammalian cell line using CRISPR. The discussion session will enable participants to independently plan future experiments utilizing CRISPR.
Objectives of the workshop:
Choosing the suitable CRISPR backbone for your experiment.
Designing guide RNAs specific to your gene of interest.
Applying bioinformatics to reduce off-targeting and toxicity issues.
Cloning CRISPR and validation of clones.
Understanding various assays to detecting successful genome manipulation.
Testing the efficacy of CRISPR to up or downregulate genes in mammalian cell culture.
Who should attend?
Young scientists, postdoctoral fellows, postgraduate students and individuals interested in applying CRISPR to their research.
Anyone interested in joining this workshop is cordially invited to participate. Further information on the workshop fees, registration and the contents of the workshop can be found on our website:
